How can I burn dvds to a portable hard drive?

Currently i have a MacBook Air Intel Core i5 - 4GB Memory - 128GB Flash Storage. I have about 1200 dvds i want to burn so I figured a 4 TB portable hard drive would be sufficient. This is the one Im looking at: Seagate Backup Plus Fast 4 TB External hard drive ( portable ) USB 3.0. Will this work? Also since I dont have a dvd tray I guess I have to buy this: Apple USB SuperDrive. Is this all I need? What programs are best/easiest/least glitchy. Im willing to pay for a nicer program but if a good free one exists please let me know.
