pc1. amd athlon 1700 that i used to connect to broadband via motorola surf modem (it connected fine with ethernet card)

pc2 recently bought amd athlon 2600.. disconnected PC1 from motorola modem and connected it via usb port. broadband connection works.

bought crossover cable..tried setting up home network.. and it doesnt work..

SO THOUGHT WOULD TRY TO PING AND RESULTS ARE BELOW..

when opening WINIPCFG

on downstairs pc

2 adaptors showing the following:

Via Rhine II ethernet adaptor
IP: 169.254.95.27
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
(tick is show next to IP routing enabled)

ICSHARE adaptor
IP: 92.32.208.67
subnet mask: 255.255.248.0
default gateway: 82.32.208.1
(tick is show next to IP routing enabled)

i can ping both of these from the downstairs pc.. just to test that they
ping themselves.

on upstairs pc

1 adaptor:

SIS NICSISNIC
IP: 169.254.254.98
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
(not ip routing enabled)

when i try to ping downstairs network card IP it says timed out.
when i try to ping ICSHARE adaptor is says destination host unreachable.

ANYONE GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS .. I KNOW I OUGHT TO TRY A DIFFERENT CROSSOVER CABLE.. BUT LOW ON MONEY SO WANNA TRY EVERYTHING B4 SPENDING MORE MONEY.
