I am looking to purchase a new PC within the next few days but I am not sure whether to go for windows xp home edition or windows xp pro.

My main use for the pc will be gaming.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

There is no need for a home user to have Pro. With the extra cash saved get a pen drive.

Single User, single PC; XP Home (or XP Media Centre with different GUI style and easy connectivity to TV inputs)

Multiple Users, single PC with need for separate data confidentiality per user; perhaps XP Pro

Multiple Users, multiple networked PCs, plus extra system management tools; XP Pro

Also, XP Pro gives you the full Data backup utility's functionality, bundled as part of the XP installation.
