Hibernation in XP

My PC is set to hibernate after 3 hours.

If I'm logged in and then simply leave the PC for 3 hours or more it hibernates and I have to press the power button to wake it up - which is exactly what I want.

However, if I log off and leave the PC at the Welcome screen it doesn't hibernate. All I do is waggle the mouse to bring it out of standby.

Any thoughts - why will it not hibernate from the Welcome screen?

Hi, It looks like you have to be logged onto windows before the auto hibernate is operational. I have a laptop which goes into hibernate when I switch the on/off button. cheers, Bill

Thanks for that, seems reasonable.

Anybody else know better, please?
