Using my laptop yesterday, it suddenly went into hibernation, switched itself off and couldn't power up again. Can anybody tell me what this means and what I need to do? Thank you.

Hibernation is where your 'running' operating system and any open programs are saved to memory like a photograph of an instant if you like. The idea is so that you can switch back on and not have to re boot from scratch. On laptops it is common for it to go into hibernation if you were running on batteries and they are almost flat so you don't lose any work. Why you are unable to restore again I can't answer assuming you have a good power source now.
