hibernate and standby has been disabled

On shutdown, there is no option to hibernate or standby on my windows ME.Both options were there until recently. They have disappeared from the settings/power options so can not be ticked. On typing hohiber.txt in "run", i see a message saying that"hibernate has been disabled because the computer failed to resume 2 or more times".Anyone know what this means and how i can restore hibernate and standby options? I do not want to try system restore as my last restore point was many months ago. Quite new to all of this so would appreciate any reply in plain-speak if possible. Thanks, Eddie.

System Restore and Hibernate have never worked satisfactorily for me in Windows ME. I would not recommend relying on them. Keep proper backups of your documents, and other important data such email. Other forum visitors will probably recommend programs like Norton Ghost that does a similar job to system restore.

Never mind hibernate, just switch off and take a nap (-_-)zzz
