I have just had my 2 computers updated to XP Pro from windows 98.

Since then I have had nothing but trouble. They both crash all the time. They never used to with 98.

Would anyone know why this is happening?

I have been told to get a larger case as this might be the problem.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Angela

What are the specs of the PCs?

Where will I find that info out??

Er, you should know it!!

RAM?

Speed in GHz?

HDD capacity?

Try right clicking on My Computer, choose Properties and look under the General tab.

I am not very good with the inside of computers. I just like typing on them.

The GHz is 1.30

The MB Ram is 480

Dont know what HDD is sorry.

That is the main computer.

The other one is 1.39 ghz and 192 MB

Hope that makes more sense.

It just seems very strange that they are both doing the same thing. Do you think it is Windows XP that is the problem.

Thanks

"Do you think it is Windows XP that is the problem."

No. XP is Microsoft's most stable operating system to date.

However, your second PC is somewhat underpowered in terms of memory for XP. Minimum RAM to run XP is 256MB and the ideal is 512MB. At 1.3GHz and 1.39GHz they are both a little shy of the mark in terms of speed.

However, try a repair to XP:

Sometimes the system files (those required to run Windows properly) can become corrupted.

Here's how to run a check on your system files:
• Click Start; Run.
• In the Run box, type cmd.exe to open the command prompt window.
• At the prompt, type sfc.exe /scannow
• Press ENTER. If Windows finds problems with the system files, you will be prompted to insert your Windows XP installation CD to restore the files.

If no problems are found and the scan finishes, type exit and press ENTER.

Do you also have all the latest updates from Windows Update?

Thanks

I will give it a go. So do you not think it has anything to do with the size of the casing.
