I have just bought a PC case (new) from e bay. It has all the usual connectors in it, power, rset, HDD led etc, it has a molex connector for the rear fan which is a bit unusual but ok. My problem is thst there is a short wire coming through from the front panel which terminates in a small 2 pin socket, the best description I cahn give is that it is a smaller 2 pin version of a floppy power connector. It seems pretty clear that this socket goes to the LED that runs up the front of the tower - my question is, what do I connect it too?

You will need to look at your MotherBoard's manual for that answer.

I hear that but not only is it not long enough to reach the mobo but it is clearly a power feed for the LEDs - I would have expected a molex connector and am a bit stumped any thoughts

resolved via a jury rig and a bit of chocolate block

It may be a Speaker, not Led. That's where they used to put them
