Help with Vista load

I am trying to build a new PC with Vista using a Foxconn board, Pentium D 925 processor (3 Ghz) and Seagate 250 GB Sata HDD. In loading Vista I can get as far as the final stage of loading but after restart the system hangs and will not come out of it. Do I need to load separately sata drivers?- the HDD is recognised by the system. I have tried (many!) combinations of BIOS changes but all to no avail. Currently I am using the onboard graphics until I get a reasonably stable system.

I have tried XP on this system which works but suffers from occassional system hang-ups which are difficult to clear.

Can anyone help please
