Help! Unable to open files on USB stick

  Dazzledoc 12:15 26 Jan 09

I am unable to open files on my USB stick - message that file cannot be accessed or cannot be read. This seems to apply to MS Office 2003 files as pdf and jpeg files open OK. Any ideas, please, gratefully received.

Can you give a bit more explanation?

Can your computer see the Office files on the USB stick, but not open them? Or are they completely invisible?

If the former, exactly what happens when you try to open them?

Does the stick have a lock? Opening jpg etc is a read only action but when you open office files temp files are created in the same directory.

No it does not have a lock

Can you copy them to your harddrive and then try to open them?

Is it a 'permissions' thing?

Do you have MS Office 2003 installed on your computer? (as you can't open them if you do not have any software prog to handle the file type)

I think you can download from MS a free 'viewer' if you do not have the relevant prog - are they Word or Excel? What is the file extension after the dot?
