My 3 year old Evesham computer - just out warranty - came up with this message. It asks me to back up my data. But how do I do that when windows does not load? Can somebody please help me?

If it was me. I would switch off the computer. Buy a new hard drive and disconnect the old one. Load a fresh install of windows. When you have every thing running perfectly with the new hard drive, enter the bios and switch off SMART. Switch the computer off and set the jumpers for the old hard drive to slave. Boot the computer and transfer all the data you want to save to the new hard drive.

Alternately, if you have a friend with a computer, ask if you can insert the drive as slave and temporarily transfer the data to their hard drive. Until you get a new drive.
