Help Re: Instant message's

My ISP is both AOL and MSN but lately I have been receiving Instant messages via AOL from either a company or a individual and on both occasion's I ignored or blocked the instant message, my question is, is this a new sort of virus transfer or maybe a new type of pop up "Bot" or maybe a ad aware or Spy ware, if this is the case then is there a way of blocking all but allowing only the certified instant message's.

This has been on my mind since I had the first one, there is one instant message I send and receive but this is to a friend and I know his I.M. Name.

In AOL, Settings (at the top), Preferences, Privacy. Anyone you block will be told you are not on-line.
