Help in purchasing a laptop

Just been having a look at click here for a laptop. I not after anything fancy but what laptop should i go for:

Depends on what you want to use it for. If you want a work horse laptop that will go and go and go but not bothered about speed and all the gismos then I suggest a Dell Latitude. If it's just a toy then either of the above but be advised in leui of the Compaq I would suggest the HP as there the same now and cheaper just under a diff name.

i should have made myself a little more clearer,
all i need a laptop for is using Office 2000 applications, programming some web design work and other uses such as playing music surfing the web,

In that case I would suggest either Compaq or HP.
