One of my sons went onto a site (porn) and a dialer was installed, someone pressed dial and before long a £97 bill for that one number arrived. There is an icon on the desktop and one next to clock, (sex now)and no matter what I do it comes back. Delete it and uninstall it by the clock, it goes in to recycle bin, empty it and it goes. When you restart the computer it returns. I have gone to internet options, connections and deleted the dialer, but it comes back even without going onto the internet. Anyone got any ideas please.

If it's got a Name,

To remove follow these step's closely, go to start\find\files or folders type in the box XXXXX click enter key delete all the entry's it finds with XXXXX in it. Next go to start run type regedit and press enter, go to menu under edit click find in the box type XXXXX and press enter it will bring up only one entry at a time, press delete key then click ok to confirm to go to next entry press F3 and delete do this until you get to the end of the registry. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE IN THE REGISTRY other than XXXXX then reboot your computer

Where XXXXX is the name you have to type in. print this off before you do the above.

go to start/run and type msconfig and delete the start up reference to the dialer restart into safe mode and go to start/search and search for sex now or dialer and delete that should do it.

A bit obvious this but it's worth checking there's nothing in the add/remove programs list in Control Panel? If there is it could be that easy.

In the Registry, would it be possible to add a PreventRun key, which is how MS instruct us to prevent Messenger running?

You can make a complaint to ICSTIS on 0880 555212 if a dialler is put on your computer without your consent. A dialler has to display an on screen clock and has to disconnect when the bill reaches £20. It is illegal to modify your home page in internet explorer without your consent.

'Unwanted Dialler' would have made an excellent title!
