help with modem trouble shooting (please read)

I run a company that travels all over Florida and sets up off site sales for clients. I have semi retired people that set up these sites. We have DSL demark boxes set up when we get there and we run the cat-5 line and set up the DSL. The problem I'm having is these people aren't computer smart and if they don't get right on line after plugging in the modem and sometime a wireless router, they're lost. I don't know enough to teach them and non of us really know the lingo. Is there anyone who could give me a step by step trouble shooting in terms older people would understand so that I may give them something to go by. Thank you so much for your time.
Last Hope.
