Help me installing sound card

  hmsabry 11:08 08 Sep 07

Operating System: Windows Vista Prem 32-bit
Sound Card: Sound BlasterX-Fi XtremeGamer (SB0730)
Computer Brand/Model: Assembled
Processor/CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4GHz)
Memory: Corsair TwinX DDRII PC-6400 2GB
BIOS Type/Revision: American Megatrends Inc., version 1101
System Board/Chipset: Asus P5B-Deluxe/Intel 965

Detailed Problem Description: My problem is that the computer fails to boot (POST failure, does not reach OS loading step) after physically attaching the card to the motherboard for the first time and the screen goes black. I disabled the on-board sound card from the BIOS and tried differnt PCI slots but no use. It seems there are certain bios settings required (IRQs, PCI latency, etc) or the card is malfunctioning. Please help. Thanks

Have you tried removing the sound card and returning the BIOS to its original settings to ensure it is nothing else?

Have you checked all connections - especially those to your HDD - for security?
