Help me to fix my audio

  bigal1808 19:57 29 Mar 10

My audio is crackling.
I think I've pulled on the audio lead.
I normally connect the lead into the monitor, but that's crackling.
So, I've switched to a mains powered pair of speakers which use a different lead, but still get the same problem.
SO -it's not the monitor, eh?
and it's not the lead!!!
So, it's the PC.
Now, I've taken the back off, but all the audio jacks are covered up.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Can I fit a separate audio card?

I had a problem a while ago with my ion-board audio output (only put out on one channel).

I (finally) solved the problem by getting a new sound card (I used USB card as no IDE slots available, and that cured it.

If you have damaged the Audio socket, the only solution is to get a new Audio card.

look at Ebay for prices, you can expect to pay between £4.00 and £30.00, depending on what you want.

thanks gentlemen - you seem to agree with me.
I'm trying to borrow a sound card off one of my mates, just to prove that it will work.
OR - there are some cheap, second-hand ones on e-bay, just to make sure.
then I could buy a goodun!

Gentlemen - problem solved.
I borrowed a PCI sound card off a friend, and once I'd installed drivers, and switched the hardware preference to the 'new'card', the sound was perfect.
So, all I gotta do now is buy a card.
thanks for all your help - I'm closing this thread.
