help with laptop overheating

I have a advent laptop with a P4 desktop processor and 512mb ot ram.the laptop cuts out after about 10 mins of use. i have cleaned the fans. does anyone have any tips on how to slow the pc down and not overheat. i only use the laptop for surfing.

If you actually have the laptop on your lap you may be covering the air intakr with your knee

Tis rather a contradiction in terms, the last place you want to put a laptop in on your lap, the link posted by Bilko is the perfect solution,
When you say you cleaned the fans are you sure they are working....

The problem for you is it's a Desktop CPU. good for on the Desktop but that's about it

Laptop coolers avalible at amazon. I have the Antec. Works fine very quiet.

Ah!! didn't spot that, would constitute the same problems as overclocking then as i assume there are voltage issue's, extra cooling maybe the answer..
