HELP I have lost everything

  Spr 10:59 20 Aug 06

I have just ran CCleaner and I have lost Outlook Express with all my e-mails address. All my files have been deleted from My Documents which I need only blank folders remain. Icons have disappeared from my Desktop. My Favourites in Internet Explorer have gone

I have ran CCleaner many times before this has never happened

Is there anyway of retrieving my lost files

I’m have Windows XP and ran System Restore that did not work.

Is there anything I can do

unless you specifically changed it, deleted files should go to the recycle bin
any there?

what OS are you using?

  Spr 11:23 20 Aug 06

I never deleted them & recycle bin is empty

up to date anti virus and anti spyware installed?
don't download or install anything until you can find out more information
to see if your outlook express info is still there go
to start menu/accessories/command prompt

type at the prompt

dir c:/ *.dbx /s /p

then press return

you should see some dbx files appear, with recent dates, if the largest is bigger than around 200k
those are quite likely your emails - there may be more than one set, the biggest file in an `empty` set is about 140k

my apologies
that should read

dir c:\ *.dbx /s /p

  brundle 11:32 20 Aug 06

/still wrong/

dir c:\*.dbx /s /p

that one definitely works ;-)

  Spr 11:46 20 Aug 06

there is no command prompt in the accessories
I tried it in start run all it does is take me to c:\HDD recent folder is empty

  brundle 11:57 20 Aug 06

you need to make c: the root

type c:

press return

the command prompt should change to

then do the dir command

sorry type `c:`, without the quotes, press return

Try a system restore.

"Is there anything I can do"

Well, no help to you now but, when you get going again ensure you have a full system backup that you keep up-to-date.
