HELP: Have I really lost all my data

  timcsmith 17:52 20 Aug 07

I have to admit that I've been a twit. I dropped a hole-punch on the laptop from a height... it was working ok then got really slow so I 'restarted'... and it hasn't since.

I get the option to start in safe/normal/last known and have tried all. the computer then shows the windows start screen for about 5 seconds then flashes a blue screen too quick to read and then reboots....

I've booted from the XP CD and entered recovery console. C:\ appears to have nothing on it... I can't CD to any dir and chkdsk gets to 19% then freezes...

I think I've killed the Hard drive... any thoughts as to how I might be able to recover even some of my data? it's been a while since I backed up and this is becoming worrying.

Thanks for any help!

I would extract the hard drive to prevent any further damage. Then hook it up to another machine as slave.

do not go into recovery console click on install but then click on "R" to do a repair.
