Some help would not come amiss on the Graphics card, on if it will fit into my older computer AGP 4 short slot there are no lugs for the slots in the AGP socket. MSI site click here

The reason is that my Creative Blaster Banshee 3dfx as blown it's top. And if the card will fit I can then also remove the TV card that is occupying a PCI slot. This is for my Win98se computer

Are you saying your older motherboard has a 4X agp slot and it has a continuous brown AGP slot without any spacers in? Or are you worried about the locking lug? Perhaps the model of your motherboard would help.

Any 8X agp card should run in a 4X slot, the voltages are the same and they are backwards compatible. The fact that it supports direct X 8.1 should be fine for windows 98.

Yes it's a "continuous brown AGP slot without any spacers" ECS K7S6A mobo. Are there two different lengths of AGP slot for 4 and 8

woodchip, NO. I have a x8 card in a x4 mobo.

The length of the AGP slot is about 3" and no lugs inside it. The picture of the card in the link above, looks like a long slot as well as the hook type thing unless that is to secure with the latch on the slot

ps. should have said. from the sounds of it you have a universal slot (no keys) so any card you can purchase retail will fit and work ok.

an x8 card will also work ok in this slot but just at x4 speed. you can pick up a Ti4200 for around £35-40

My card A is a universal slot has no key.

  hugh-265156 23:37 01 Aug 04

yes.

if it is one long continious slot with no divisions along it its universal. buy any card you want and it will fit.

But what about the one in the link above? only just over £33 with P&P it is also a TV card not just TV out but a TV tuner card

You have the same motherboard as me. huggyg71 is right, any one will fit
