Hi All,

Using win98se

Internet Explorer home page has been Hijacked by CoolWebSearch.

Takes me to a webpage for loans and mortgages etc.

I've ran Adaware 6 (uptodate) and it detects the following:

CoolWebsearch CSS Hijack Software\microsoft\Internet explorer\Styles\c:\ windows\web\win.def

Stylesheet hijack.

I used Ad aware to remove it and rebooted but when I connect to the net again....startpage guard tells me that an attempt has been made to hijack my start page. By the said CoolWebSearch etc.

When I goto Internet Explorer using windows explorer, all I get is a blank page so how do I trace the path to delete this pronlem?

I've run regedit looking for 'CoolWebSearch' and found nothing.

So how do I get rid of this annoyance?

Thanks in advance of all and any help received,

Mike

Something took over mine a few days ago - ran a search to find the records but it wouldn't let me delete it all.

In the end I rebooted into safe mode - does the trick every time ;-))

Also you could try Spybot click here

Have you tried just deleting c:\ windows\web\win.def ?

You could try Spy Sweeper one of it's operations stops the default home page from being changed. it asks you if you will allow the change or not.
It's basically free with optional subscription for definition updates. It's also good against spyware etc. get it here ::click here

Hi All,

thanks very much both of you Vog it made interesting reading and I've added page to fav's so I can read in detail. I have Spybot but it still got through.

u_not couldnt understand how rebooting into safe mode would help.

I did try on google and found a delete program for it as awell.

So, thanks for your help both and a very fast response. :)
