I've recently bought a new laptop and the hard drive from my old one has been removed and i am trying to use it for external storage. However, I cannot delete the contents of the the old drive as its protected? Any ideas how I can completely wipe this hard drive?

If you know the make of the hard drive you can download software from the manufacturers website that can do this sort of thing. EG Maxblast for Maxtor drives, Seatools for Seagate drives.

Go to `Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management` right click the drive and select `Delete Partition`. Having done that you should be able to format it as usual.
