help extending wifi coverage

Following an upgrade to Virgin's 30mb internet I have now a Virgin badged Netgear combined Modem/Wireless Router. The wireless range appears to be lower than my old Linkys WRT54GC as there are now several blackspots round the house. I invested in a TP-Link TL-WA701ND to extend the range as it had a repeater function. Now that I have it up and running inSSIDer 2.0 shows 2 signals. One is higher than the other (naturally), however both are on the same channel and have the same SSID. Is this the correct position or should there be some seperation in channels?

Any guidance would be appreciated

As you're using a "repeater", I suspect it is passing on the same SSID on the same channel as the main router. Therefore, if you don't have a problem with it, leave it as it is.

You could, of course, have plugged your existing Linksys router into one of the new router's LAN ports and continued to use that for your wireless connections.

Thanks for your reply.

The Linksys is "G" and the Superhub is "N" and that was why I went for thed Repeater to boost the sinal strength.

Anyway thanks for the info I am glad I have set up things correctly
