Hi i have a 100gb 2.5 ide fujitsu hdd in a enclosure, my problem is when i plug the usb in to my laptop running vista or the desktop running xp they both freeze and the hdd drive locks up, only when i unplug it will the screen return to normal, sometimes the external drive letter doesnt show on my computer. I have checked in system settings and it says it is there under drives and working properly. I can plug it into the pc's in work running xp and it works fine i can transfer and delete on the drive any ideas please.

Try changing the drive letter from disk management.Change to something like (z) to reduce confusion.

How many usb ports are currently in use, this could be a power supply unit issue !

At work, try running Disc Checker on the drive

You could be right as it's is a 2.5 laptop drive that draws power from USB not adapter

You will probably require a usb extender, such as a four way, with it's own power adaptor.
