help to decipher web stats

i have recently set up my own website, largely thanks to the help of people in here - thankyou. i'm starting to get curious about web stats (i use cPanel 6) and wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of a site that could help me to work out what they all mean. i have searched google for info but i'm not very good at all this and need info in plain english!! i'd be much obliged for any advice.

Also, can someone tell me the difference between a "page request" a "hit" and a "visit". my web stats tell me i've had 20,000+ "requests", 600+ "hits" and 200+ "visits". what does this mean in actual "people"?

Grateful for any help.
