When you say scan, scan with what?

  Secret-Squirrel 09:47 15 Jan 15

Trish, your SFC report is probably nothing to worry about as there's a bug in the SFC mechanism that frequently misreports "settings.ini" of Microsoft-Windows-Sidebar as being irreparable. And anyhow, that file has nothing to do with Windows Updates so you can simply ignore that report.

What problems are you experiencing exactly?

  Secret-Squirrel 10:02 15 Jan 15

Trish, ignore Bob's reply. SFC is falsely reporting that file as being corrupt so you don't have to do anything. Secondly, because he's included the phone number for a tech support company, he's probably a spammer simply using your thread to promote his business.

That was the CMD scan..LOL

I cannot update windows says that there is an error and refuses the DL or update.

  trishbaby100 22:48 17 Jan 15

OK so ignoring Bobs posts anyone else have any ideas? And for those that dont seem to recognize the report from the cmd scannow, I dont think I will be accepting your advise. Thats something you should recognize.. Been given far too much bad advise from people "trying" to help with no actual tech exp. Thanks anyways.

I've found on Vista and above the sfc is useless. On XP it was good. Can you restore to an earlier date prior to problem?

As stated earlier ignore the scan message about system.ini. see here why

If windows is not updating then we need to look elsewhere exactly which operating system are you using?

Possibly check the update service is switched on and BIT (Background Intelligent Transfer) service is on and started.
