I want to buy a new PC in the next few days. I use it for photo editing with RAW fils and CS3.

These are my options:
1. Packard Bell 2712 Quad + 2GB memory 500 HD £629

2. Company called CCL same spec but hand built £599.

3. Dell x420 Quad 2GB memory £599

All have nVidia 8600 graphic.

Is there any difference in which machine may be more upgradable? Plus does and extra 1gb of memory make a massive difference?

Thanks

Ian

You do not need a high spec card for photo-editing but the more RAM the better although a Quad processor should help. PB computers, contrary to what has been written, are very good and Dell are excellent. I would give Cougar a ring and have a chat.

If you want the computer quickly, go to PCW and hand over the readies. You will have it up and running in a hour or so. Dell are very good value and superb build quality, they are also very cheap, especially as some of their computers come with 20" screens but if you can afford it upgrade to 22", you will not regret it. Personally I would spend most money on he screen as you will use this the most...stuff an expensive graphics card.
