Headset problem

When I try to listen to a CD in Win media player via a headset the sound is not coming through the headset at all, It can be heard in the room only.
I have the headset pluged into pink and green colour coded sockets on the front of the PC.
I have just bought the headset as the old one was the same and I thought it must be broken as I got it given.
Any ideas?

Have you got a new Sound Card and disabled the On-board Sound?

I found the wave volume settings and moved it up to full, but it did not make a difference

Also found Realtek sound manager when I ran a search.

It may be that the front audio sockets are not connected.

First try them in the sockets at the rear of the system. If they work there, you almost certainly have either a wiring error in the case, or you have one of the many cases where it's not possible to have sound from both sets of sockets.
