Headphones not working on Packard Bell Laptop in Linux Debian Squeeze

Headphones not working on Packard Bell Laptop in Linux

Sound works on Packard Bell Laptop Internal Loudspeakers OK but as soon as I plug headphones in the Laptop there is no sound in the headphones

Ps I use Linux most of the time on the Laptop, and Windows occasionally

How can I make Sound Work with Headphones in Linux please ? as that is the OS I use most of the time

I normally only use Windows XP in order to do Nokia Mobile Phone Backups

When I boot into Windows XP to use Windows sound works OK both with the Laptop Internal Speakers and the Headphones Work OK too

However I had to download wdm_r259 Hi Def Audio Driver initially for Win XP to be able to show the Loudspeaker Icon and for Sound to work at all in Win XP

Try installing gnome-volume-control. It is a sound GUI which makes set up of sound devices much simpler. You may find that headphones have been muted of the volume has been set very low.
