Headphone socket on a CD-ROM

How do I change the audio settings for a CD-ROM so that when I plug in a set of headphones I can hear the music being played, and it blocks out the sound coming from the PC's loudspeakers?

I have looked at the Sound settings in control panel to no avail and also looked at the properties of the sound card, again with no success.

you cant , it just lets you listen to a cd with the pc speakers switched off.

Just switch off or mute the computer system speakers...:-)

The CD-ROM headphone socket is independent; you are probably thinking of an amplifier, portable radio or TV which cuts the signal to the speakers if headphones are inserted.
