HDDs Not Detected

Can anyone help-I had a PC with two hdds; 60gb (C drive) and a 250gb (data and progs). They worked fine in the system, then I got a new PC and gave the old shell to a friend while keeping my hdds. I got the idea of using them as externals, so I got two external boxes but despite changing all the settings from master to slave and back again they do not show up. Have started and re-started the pc but still not showing up. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

My specs are a p4, 1gb memory, dvd and a dvd re-writer, 250gb sata drive, usb2 ports. I have been into the disk managment section but still no joy. The light comes on in one of the external cases, but for the other nothing. Is it possible that they are (the hdds) both bust? Is it possible to somehow get the data on the back?

Plug them in one at a time temporarily as a slave in the new pc, check that the bios is set to auto-detect

Try connecting them directly to the PC as slaves, could be the caddies are iffy
