HDD Query

I've installed a new 120GB HD on my PC

The HD is set to slave and is recognised by Windows XP and is ONLINE and active

However, Windows is taking time to start up - about 90 seconds. I've removed the drive, and all is OK again.

Being 120GB - is this too large to realisticly use as 1 drive?

If I partition it into say two 60GB drives, would this resovle the problem?

Any idease

It looks to me as though something is scanning or establishing facts about this large drive every time you boot up.

Assuming the drive is just a data store, then there should be no delay during boot-up and very little when you seek to save or access data on the new drive.

Just what is running in the background is probably the answer to this problem.
