HDD Password frozen on Netbook

I have a Samsung N220 Plus netbook running Win7 Home Premium with 2Gb memory. On trying to sign in I am told the user name or password is invalid. Looking in "Setup" I see that the HDD password is shown as "frozen" and the box next to it, where I should be able to enter a new password is greyed out and the cursor cannot be placed over it. basically I cannot use the newbook because I cannot get past the sign-in screen. At one point the screen went blank and the message shown was "System disabled 2218B84CC4020600001". To bring the netbook back to life I had to disconnect the battery and then re-connect it.

Is there a way in which I can perhaps bypass the sign-in screen or even do a clean re-install of the operating system or any other way to get the newbook working? Help would be appreciated.
