HDD Light always on

I have a "Tiny" machine with a Micro Star MS-6340 Version 1 motherboard in it.

When I switch on, the Hard Disk light comes on immeditely and stays on.

I can start up only with a floppy (Windows 98 startup disk) and the hard disk comes out as an invalid drive specification, as does the CD ROM Drive.

The BIOS cannot find the Hard Disk either.

This has only happened recently. I've been trying to do a System restore with the "Tiny" CD but I kept coming up with the error "Error #49, write error". I managed to format the Hard Disk and tried System Restore again, but kept getting error #49 again.

Now I can't even get the PC to recognise the fact that the Hard Disk is there, and the HDD light stays on.

Any ideas please?

If the BIOS cannot find it, and the light is always on - sounds like it's ready for the big magnetic scrapheap.

is your hdd cable on the right way round - as if you do the same with the floppy, the light on that stays on if the cable is round the wrong way. I am aware that most cables are labled and the "notches" prevent an incorrect plug in but if its "tiny" check everything !!!
