Hi
Still looking at HD. from the following specs, which is better, and what is the diference?

16Mb Cache Hard Disk Drive SATAII 300MB/s 8.9ms 7200rpm - OEM

8Mb Cache Hard Disk Drive SATAII 300MB/s 8.9ms 7200rpm - OEM

SATA II 7200rpm 8Mb Cache 11ms 300Mb/s

Thanks

Also, is it important to have a anti static mat and wrist band?

Check your sta controller will run at sata11 (300mbs)

Remember OEM means NO cables or software with it.

Thanks.
I emailed Novatech, and told them which HD I have at the moment, and they replied that any of these click here would do.

How do I check the sta controller will run at sata II 300mbs.
I take it that I can use my existing sata cables

If Novatech said they will be OK, then no problem.
I often use them and they know what they are talking about.

All the best

In simple terms (which are all I can understand!)

The Cache figure relates to the temporary memory on the HD. Theoretically a larger figure here meams minutely faster seek/write in some situations because the HD does some second-guessing predicting the next activity.

In fact the three examples do much the same thing the choice is between a larger cache and whether to buy the OEM version which is a plain box containing just the HD, or
A fancier box with an instruction sheet a data cable and a packet of small screws. BUT note this one has the longer seek time - 11ms

Thanks for that guys. I'll tick as resolved, and if I need more help I'll just post again

Just had an email back from Compaq (HP) that any of those HD would be OK for my machine.
Just need to make my mind up which one of these to buy:
