further to my earlier post, the jjjjjjjjjjjjj problem does not just happen with the j key. (I dont think it is stuck) If I depress a key on the laptop next to the j, the j goes mad. I am sure the 'ringing' from the keyboard means something also ie a 'dying' motherboard? Any ideas?

Anything been spilt onto keyboard? As the j is near the centre of the keyboard is the pointer device, if fitted, working OK? have you tried rebooting laptop?

I have re-booted, even re-installed windows but to no avail. The J does not appear to be stuck down, but will investigate further! The 'ringing' is also a concern.I can start to pu an address or password in, then all of a suden 'j's start to appear filling the line.
