Just got a new Buffalo 500GB, and it is in FAT32. I tried changing it to NTFS using the built in utility, but it did nothing. I have tried using CMD but apparently I don't have the privilage to, I need to use it in elevated mode.

How else can I format it?

Ta :)

right click my computer - manage- storage - disk management - right click the drive and select format.

That seems to be working, although its taking its sweet time doing it! About an hour in and only 16% done!

I got a BSOD halfway through, now it comes up in My Computer next to my DVD drive rather than my internal HDD, and when I click on properties, it comes up with 0bytes used 0 bytes free, and it doesn't even come up with the format type now

I think I've broken it.

USB?

Make sure you are not plugging in via USB hub must be direct to the PC (rear sockets are best).

If BSOD then file system corrupt re format it.
