Have I got a virus?

I keep getting a pop up-

VCHOST~1.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Then it goes on to ask me if I want to send an error report.

A mate of mine said he had to rebuild his machine after being infected with this. Is there any other way I could get rid of this problem to avoid that?

He said it all started after he accepted an offer to update his MSN messenger program. I seem to remember falling foul of this too...

I run AVG, Spybot and Adaware, they don't pick it up.

You mean svchost.exe That is ok any other spelling could be bad.If it was Messenger Plus that you downloaded maybe that is where your problem is.
