hi

i am changing the hardrive on a old pc (hp compaq)
but have no start up discs

could i create one from my new pc (toshiba) and after installing new hardrive run the start up disc ?

or could i download linux to a disc
put in new hard drive and then install linux ?

What Operating System is on the old HDD? I assume the old Hard Drive is still working? You probably have a restore partition on your old drive so the best idea is to clone the old drive to an external drive or to your new Toshiba. Swap the drive over to the new one and clone the old drive back. The computer should start as normal.
