Hard drives

I've a home built pc running windows xp home edition with a SATA hard drive and dvd drives on the second IDE channel. I want to add a second hard drive which is presently in a second computer, with an OS on it, to transfer a large amount of data photos etc. If I add a IDE ribbon to the primary drive to run the second drive, even with the hard drive set to slave, the computer will not boot. The drive is recognised by the BIOS. Any ides? Thank you.

Would suggest it could be a BIOS setting, my computer which I built just last week had to have the channels enabled in the BIOS before it would boot. In my case I had to enable SATA 1, SATA 2 and IDE 1. Only other suggestion I have if thats not it is try connecting the hard drive to where one of your optical drives are and the optical drive on its own on the primary.
