Hard Drive Space

My system has two physical 80Gb hard drives. However, whenever I come to re-partition and format them after a spring-clean, the MS disk management software on the Windows XP install CD always says that physical Disk 0 - master - is 76.68 Gigs, and Disk 1 - slave - is 74.55 Gigs. This is after clearing them, but before any re-partitioning.

I understand that there will always be a certain amount of space used up for disk admin, but I wonder if these figures are a bit high? If they are, I wonder if anyone is able to suggest a possible reason please?

Thanks very much for that CRX1600. I will print the linked article for future reference. Had a feeling there would be a logical explanation but just couldn't see it myself.

Thanks again....regards....Gran
