hard drive problems?

Since returning from holiday a week ago I have problems with my hard not defragging complteley, slow running, installed "speed it up" and "perfect disc"no problems found and now this morning was printing 6x4 photo and when I tried to preview got error message Instruction cannot be executed for lack of system resource.
I'm running XP with all the updates etc.
80GB drive, free space 29GB. anyone any ideas please.

Check your paging file is set to a suitable size;
click here

Full antivirus and antispyware scan; (free tools);
click here and click here

check system files (have your xp cd handy) - start menu/run, type `sfc /scannow` without the quotes, hit return

Full scan of your HD with manufacturer's diagnostic if you are still having problems;

thanks for the tips have Anti-virus etc all upto date
Disk checks done okay.
Paging file okay
sfc/scannow can't be found.

You have to type it EXACTLY as brundle says with the space, if in doubt copy and paste it into the Run box.

updated everything, running fine but there still seem to be a lot of files that can't be defragged

Finally found my what my file problem was, it was a back -up file I had done sometime ago got rid of it everything okay now fingers crossed.
