hard drive problem

a few weeks ago i had a problem with 60 gb hd in xp it was trying to read over and over again, so i purchased another and installed that as a slave. All was fine until now when the disc started making the same noise and winxp doesnt recognise it.....what can i do....thanks

Do you know the make of the drive ..eg seagate?

Also you can try using the Recovery Console click here and use the command chkdsk C /p
