Hard drive Problem

  daveac41 15:38 06 May 10

After a recent reinstall, a separate drive, nothing to do with the reinstall, suddenly started showing 128 GB capacity, when before, it was very close to 500GB with maybe a third of it full. It now "requests" to be partitioned. Is there any way of recovering data from it. Right clicking on properties in WE shows it to be empty.
Please help!

"After a recent reinstall"

What op system XP?

In Windows, click on Start->Run, enter "regedit".
# Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters registry subkey.
# From the Edit menu, select New, DWORD Value.
# Enter the name EnableBigLba, then press Enter.
# Double-click the new value, set it to 1, then click OK.
# Close the registry editor.
# Restart the machine for the change to take effect.

Updating to SP2 or SP3 will also overcome the problem.
