My son is running out of disc space because his 200gb hd thinks it is a 40gb one, ie in "My comp" it says 40 but on the drive itself it say 200.The comp was bought as having a 200gb drive. As anyone any ideas whats gon wrong?

What os? What are the jumper settings showing on the drive? What does the drive show in BIOS?

IFR XP / 2k:

Right click "my computer" and choose manage, then disk management.

From there you will see the disk and there will likely be a large section of it not partitioned. You can right click on the unallocated section and format it as you wish. That should get the rest back; it will show as a different disk in "my computer" though rather than increase the space on the 40GB drive.
