Hard Drive only seen as 6GB.

I've just built a new PC, installed Win 98 but it's only showing the Hard Drive as having 6GB intead of 40GB.

If I look in the BIOS the value is correct. Also if I run FDISK it tells me that I already have 1 primary DOS partition of 40GB using the FAT32 file system.

I am going to upgrade to XP. Will this cure the problem or do I need to sort it out before I upgrade.

Any advice as to what to try would be much appreciated.

when running fdisk do you have an option 5 listed..if you do you have more than 1 hard drive or theres a hidden/ nonactive partition. Also if you could run partition magic it could be used to reset the partitions to a single whole unit on the fly..much better than Fdisk..

upgrading to XP >> wait until youve sorted the hard drive partition Out..
