Hard Drive memory addressing

I'm currently looking to upgrade my harddrive. I've noticed that the larger current drives (160Gb and above) need 48 bit memory addressing rather than 28 bit memory addressing. I was wondering if anyone could let me know how to find out which size my current system is using to see if I could run one of these larger drives at full capacity.

Thanks in advance.
