my problem is my pc needed a reinstall.it had two partions c drive/data d a total of 224gigs 112 on each partion.i took it to my brothers as i was installing more ram this he did as well as reinstalling op system.it now only has 127 gigs on c drive i not know whats gone wrong.is there a way to restore lost memory.

Is your copy of XP(if its XP) pre service pack?.
The original XP could only see HDD up to 127GB.

Also did you delete both partitions before installing a new copy of XP.

You could also look in disk management to check for un-formatted disc space

yes it pre service pack.my brother just wiped the disk clean before reinstalling.i getting a new xp disk anyway it has service pack 2.so hopefully that should sort the problem then ye.

If its XP SP2,then yes it should address the problem,you could also check the BIOS is set auto detect the HDD.
