HI all,

Just after a bit of advice as I am a pc novice. I am looking at getting an external hard drive to extend the life of my already ageing pc. I have seen a couple of 120gb drives made by samsung. One is an ide hard drive and one is a sata hard drive. They both connect via usb. Does it matter which one I buy or do I have to stick to the same sort of connections (ide) as the drives in my tower? Hope that makes sense to someone.

If they are connected by USB doesn't matter about internal interface.....just go for the cheapest.

But the SATA one will be quicker.

Ok peeps

I didn't think it would matter, but better be safe than sorry. Cheers

There is currently nothing available in hardrives that come anywhere near using the maximum transfer rate available in PATA Ultra DMA 133 so the fact that the SATA interface is capable of higher transfer rates is academic and since the drives concerened are to be connected via the USB bus it will limit the transfer rates to way less than PATA or SATA so Sheik is spot on in saying go for the cheapest

Cheers HC
